Port Neches-Groves QB Bost Moves Up on Aggies’ Depth Chart

Port Neches-Groves QB Blake Bost

Blake Bost, a former Port Neches-Groves quarterback and, a preferred walk-on, has moved up the depth chart to the backup QB slot on the active roster for Texas A&M.

Haynes King, the starter at quarterback at the start of the season, suffered a broken ankle in the first quarter of the Aggies’ 10-7 win over Colorado last Saturday.

Zach Calzada, a sophomore and King’s backup, replaced him. Calzada was 18 of 38 passing for 183 yards and a touchdown late in the game to give the Aggies the slim lead. The Texas A&M defense held off a Colorado rally on 4th down in the waning moments to seal the victory.

Head Coach Jimbo Fisher has not offered a timeline for the King’s return.

From Preferred Walk-on to #2 on Depth Chart

Bost was listed as the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart behind King and Calzada. With King now out, it is apparent that Bost will now serve as the backup QB for the upcoming game with New Mexico.

Bost joined the team after racking up big numbers at Port Neches-Groves.

Bost passed for 2,268 yards, 25 touchdowns, and five INTs. He also gained more than 800 yards rushing and scored 17 touchdowns on the ground. He passed for 2005 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2019. He was coached by veteran PNG coach Brandon Faircloth.

After rushing for 303 yards and two touchdowns as a team in Week 1 vs Kent State, The Aggies were held to just 98 yards rushing and zero touchdowns on the ground against Colorado, leaving Texas A&M one-dimensional with a backup quarterback.

On Saturday, New Mexico comes to Kyle Field for an 11 a.m. kick-off. The Lobos offense is led by Terry Wilson, a transfer from Kentucky. He has passed for 556 yards and 6 touchdowns and zero INTs as the Lobos are 2-0.

Last week Wilson is coming off 382 yards passing and a three-touchdown performance last week in a 35-25 win over New Mexico State.
