Prosper Says No to $94 Million Stadium
Prosper ISD had grand plans for the future. The school district was looking to add a $94 million stadium with a seating capacity of 8,000, mainly to accommodate the growth in the area.
Recently, we published a pice about the most expensive high school stadiums locally.
However, it’s not something the people wanted.
News this morning broke that Proposition C, which detailed the funding of the project, was voted down by a percentage split of 54-46. The final vote tally was 5,533 votes against and 4,767 votes for. The $2.8 billion bond package included the $94 million for a new stadium.
It was the only Proposition that failed of the four bond items on the ballot. Propositions A (65% in favor), B (64% in favor), and D (56% in favor) passed by comfortable margins. These Propositions involved building new schools and facilities, technology upgrades, and a new performance arts center.
The stadium, if approved, wasn’t scheduled for construction for another three to five years. It was set to be located at the district’s fourth high school, which wouldn’t open until 2025.
The new stadium would have been the second for Prosper ISD. Previously, they built one that cost an estimated $53 million. A second stadium was meant to accommodate all of the district’s high school, who would have rotated playing at both locations.
The city currently has just under 38,000 residents and is one of the fastest-growing areas in the state. Prosper serves students within the city limits, as well as parts of Celina, Frisco, McKinney, and Aubrey.
