The ‘Stone Oak Super Bowl’ was everything fans wanted it to be.
At Heroes Stadium, the Reagan Rattlers handed San Antonio Johnson its first defeat of the season, winning 41-27. The undefeated Rattlers and the Jaguars entered Friday night in a tie for first place in District 28-6A. Now, Reagan sits alone at top of district 28 with only three games remaining.
Reagan’s defense was the difference maker. They came into the contest with seven interceptions and were up against a resilient Jags offense behind TCU committed quarterback Ty Hawkins. On the ground, Hawkins still managed to rush for over 100 yards, but was completely limited through the air, tossing for fewer than 200 passing yards. Although they were out-gained in total yards, the defensive unit still forced two turnovers and added a blocked punt late in the fourth quarter.
Still, the Jags kept it close until the end of regulation, with the score tied at 27-27 at the 8:44 mark of Q4.
Entering the contest Friday, running back Cole Pryor was 139 yards short of 1,000 rushing yards. Pryor zipped for the go-ahead 11-yard touchdown run, giving his team the advantage with 5:00 left of the game. He scored once more at the end of regulation to ice out the Jags. In total, he stole the show on offense, managing 213 yards on 34 carries for four touchdowns.
Johnson next hosts Marshall in a home district contest this Saturday. Reagan will face San Antonio Churchill away on Friday.
