UTSA is looking to continue their upward trajectory from last season and the Roadrunners have added another talent on the defensive side of the ball to build that. On Tuesday, Sachse defensive end Zach Gilson announced his commitment to the Roadrunners.

The defensive end chose UTSA over offers from Fordham, Illinois State, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa. Gilson had also taken an unofficial visit to Texas and had garnered interest from them as well as Baylor and TCU among others. He becomes the seventh commit in the Class of 2018 for the Roadrunners
Gilson had a solid year for Sachse in 2016, finishing with 36 tackles, six tackles for loss, four sacks and a fumble recovery. Thanks to his play, he was an honorable mention all-district selection. As he enters his senior season, Gilson is expected to have another big year on the defensive line along with highly-touted 2019 prospect Hunter Spears on that same defensive line.
The Mustangs open the season at home against Trophy Club Byron Nelson on September 1.
