San Augustine’s Kevorian Barnes A Roadrunners Run Threat
Best part of an explosive offense: more likely than not, everyone gets fed! Coming into the contest, UTSA Roadrunners quarterback Frank Harris had an FBS leading mark in total yards. In Friday’s victory against 31-10 victory over FIU, Harris relied on Freshman Kevorian Barnes heavily for the ground game. A graduate of 2A San Augustine, Barnes delivered 128 yards and two touchdowns in the win; both scores came in the second half of a fairly lopsided affair.
“It means a lot,” Barnes said post game. “I feel like the coaches are starting to trust me now. They’re giving me more of the opportunity.”
At San Augustine in East Texas, Barnes was a four-year letterman and three-year team captain for coach Marty Murr. During his prep career, the running back piled up 4,000+ rushing yards, helping the Wolves advance to the state semifinal round three times. After injuring his foot in the Roadrunners training camp last season, Barnes played in a pair of games and used his redshirt season at the end of the year. His book smarts continued at the collegiate level; Barnes is currently a marketing major and a Conference USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll member.
“I come from a small school, where I didn’t really know much about football,” Barnes said. “Coaches have been patient with me. Teaching me and helping me with my game. I feel like I’ve come a long way.”
UTSA next hosts UNT on Saturday. The Roadrunners are currently riding a four game win streak, and have won 20 of their last 25 contests.
