SMU picked up an out-of-state commitment on Thursday but it’s a name very familiar to the coaching staff. Defensive tackle Kemon Smith announced his commitment to the Mustangs on Thursday, just over a month after he previously decommitted.

The three-star prospect from Louisiana chose SMU again over offers from Houston, Kansas, Arkansas State and Southern Miss among others.
Smith put up strong numbers as a junior, finishing the year with 51 tackles, 24 tackles, 5 sacks and an interception for Northshore High School in Slidell.
The 6-2, 280-pound defensive tackle is the first out-of-state prospect in the Class of 2018. The Mustangs’ class is currently ranked the third-best from the American Athletic Conference per 247 Sports.
SMU is looking to build off the progress made from their 5-7 season in 2016. The Mustangs open the 2017 campaign on September 2 at home against Stephen F. Austin.
