Cibolo Steele continues their winning ways, starting their season 5-0 for the second consecutive season. Overall, the team has started at the marker seven times. Besides their first season in 2006, the Knights have never missed the playoffs. They look destined to continue that run this season. Currently, the Knights are aiming third straight district championship run with 13 starters from their 11-win season last year. They claimed their lone state championship in 2010, a feat they haven’t submitted since.

Overall it hasn’t been easy, with challenges in the opener against Brennan, winning the match by a single point at the last second, and outlasting Midland Legacy in an overtime thriller 35-28. Their biggest accomplishment that could separate these Knights from past seasons: beating Lake Travis for the first time in five games. So far, they have overcome the difficult part of their schedule; their remaining district tilt are against opponents that combine for an overall record of 11-14, with only Clemens boasting a winning record.

Utah State running back commit Jaydon Bailey has been on a tear for the offense, accounting for an eye-popping 201 yards and three touchdowns in the Knights’ opener and 159 yards and four touchdowns against Midland; overall, he has had a touchdown in every game so far.

Stud Tulane linebacker commit Makai Williams (who accounted for 148 tackles last season) leads a defensive unit that has makes the stops when called upon. The unit came into their own last Friday, holding Fort Bend Christian to a single score, in a 48-7 blowout.

Steele next hosts New Braunfels tomorrow. Currently, the Knights have won 10 games against the Unicorns in a row and are 10-2 all-time against the squad. New Braunfels hasn’t seen a victory against their district rivals since 2007.

It’s early, but safe to say the Knights have firmly established themselves as the team to beat in South Texas.
