Stratford Grad Andrew Luck Back On The Gridiron
In the wake of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers season-ending injury, the rumor mill is constantly churning out names of possible replacements. Specifically, one Stratford standout and former Pro Bowler has been frequently mentioned as a candidate.
After all, he is making a football comeback… except, to the Jets dismay, it has nothing to do with the NFL.
Andrew Luck, the former No. 1 overall pick who abruptly retired at his prime from the Indianapolis Colts four years ago, is now a high school football coach.
Though not in Texas, the former Houston native is working part time with the Palo Alto High School football team in California—right across the street from his old stomping grounds at Stanford University. He also re-enrolled in the college last fall to earn his Master’s in education.
Luck is coaching at practices twice a week for Palo Alto coach Dave DeGeronimo’s junior varsity squad.
In April 2019, Luck shocked the football world, abruptly retiring and claiming he needed to “remove himself from football” and cited a “cycle of injury, pain, rehab.” Last December, Luck said in an ESPN feature story that he wanted to pursue a graduate degree so that he could coach and teach high school history.
Still, Luck continues to make appearances on television. Last Thursday Night Football, Luck showed up in a Civil War era military uniform, dressed as his famous Twitter parody persona Captain Andrew Luck.
In total, in his NFL career, Luck was one of the best quarterbacks ever produced by the Lone Star State, logging 23,671 passing yards and 171 touchdowns over six seasons. With Stratford, Luck passed for 7,139 career yards and 53 touchdowns in three prep seasons, completing 488 of 824 passes (59.2%).
