Other than knowledge of the game, being a high school football official comes with a lot of responsibilities.
John Patino told KRIS 6 Sports, “You got to learn your roles and you got to be physically fit.”
Learning these roles comes with the steps it takes to become an official here in South Texas.
Patino added, “One you got to register with the state of Texas, with the Texas Association of Sports Officials. Background check and criminal check, once that is done you register with us for $25. Then we train you, you got classroom training, video training, and on the field training.”
