TCU Becomes Only Texas Team Ranked In Either AP Or Coaches Poll

The state of Texas was left out of the College Football Amway Coaches Poll this week. This takes us right back to where we left off last season, when zero Texas teams made the final Coaches Poll. In fact, last season ended without a Long Star State team getting a single vote.

Three teams were in the “Others Receiving Votes” category. TCU barely missed the cut. The Horned Frogs garnered 80 votes, which put them right behind No. 25 Notre Dame. They got more love from the Associated Press, who ranked them No. 23. TCU has a road test at Arkansas this week. With a win, it will likely be ranked next week.

Texas still garnered three votes from the Coaches Poll despite the disappointing 51-41 loss to Maryland. The Longhorns were No. 23 in the preseason and will play San Jose State this week. Houston, who postponed its week one game with UTSA because of Hurricane Harvey, also got three votes. The Cougars play at Arizona this weekend.

Texas A&M was one of the top teams in the “Others Receiving Votes” category of the preseason Coaches Poll. The Aggies might’ve vaulted into the top 25 if games only lasted three quarters. But every game has a 4th quarter, and the Aggies didn’t realize that. They were outscored 28-0 in the final period and lost to UCLA Sunday at the Rose Bowl. They will look to rebound this Saturday against Nicholls State.
