Texas High School Stars on the AFC 2024 Pro Bowl Roster
AFC 2024 Pro Bowlers & Their Connection to Texas High School Football
The NFL announced its complete rosters for the 2024 Pro Bowl Games. Of course, Lone Star State talent was in abundance. Here are the honored athletes in the AFC, and their ties to Texas high school football:
Justin Tucker, Baltimore Ravens, K
Arguably the greatest kicker of all-time, Justin Tucker has made the Pro Bowl every year since 2019.
In his junior season with Westlake, he was named the third-best place-kicker in the nation by ESPNU, booted in 30 field goals, and managed 155 PATs. During the year, he accepted a scholarship to kick for UT, and graduated a semester early to become a Longhorn that January.
We made a case for why no one has excelled at their position quite like Tucker. You can find that article over here.
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs, QB
Perhaps not near the level of last year’s MVP campaign, Patrick Mahomes still guided his team to secure their eighth straight AFC West title.
The best quarterback of his generation, Mahomes got his start at Whitehouse, leading his team to its first-ever district title. As a senior, Mahomes threw for 4,619 yards and 50 touchdowns, as well as rushing 157 times for 948 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Myles Garrett, Cleveland Browns, DE
One of five Cleveland Brown players named to the Pro Bowl this year, Myles Garrett is also in contention for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.
Under coach Bob Wager at Martin, Garrett earned Texas Class 5A Defensive Player of the Year honors as a senior, posting 81 tackles, 19.5 quarterback sacks, and 19 quarterback hurries.
We were actually on hand at the 2017 NFL Combine and asked Garrett to describe the impact his high school career had on his gridiron success.
Justin Madubuike, Baltimore Ravens, DT
Justin Madubuike is one of three Texas A&M Aggies to make the Pro Bowl this year, joining fellow alumni Mike Evans and Myles Garrett.
With McKinney North, Madubuike had 75 tackles and 16.5 sacks. He was also named to 2016 All-District and All-State honors.
Marvin Mims Jr., Denver Broncos, WR
Despite the drama surrounding the Russell Wilson situation, rookie Marvin Mims Jr. stood out as the sole offensive player selected from the Broncos to the Pro Bowl.
As a senior competing with Lone Star, Mims Jr. set a national record with 2,629 receiving yards on 117 receptions with 32 touchdown catches. Overall, Mims Jr. graduated with a state record 5,485 receiving yards.
