No, it isn’t Texas, it’s LSU. It’s not even an LSU at full strength, as all-universe human Mack Truck Leonard Fournette isn’t making the trip to Aggieland. We’ll likely say goodbye to some familiar, dominant faces as this is most likely Myles Garrett’s last regular season game. Trevor Knight is back at quarterback for the Aggies, so they’ll have some experience against a fierce LSU pass rush.
Matchup: LSU DL vs. A&M OL
LSU is hopefully fielding Arden Key (he’s struggling with an injury), one of the most underrated pass rushers in the nation. The A&M offensive line has been generally excellent under Kevin Sumlin, so there’s no way to determine a clear winner here.
Advantage: Push
Matchup: LSU OL vs. A&M DL
This is one of the best A&M defensive lines of all time. Every single position has an excellent player at it. I don’t care what current offensive line you put up against them, A&M definitely beats them.
Advantage: A&M
Matchup: LSU WR/RB/QBs vs. A&M LB/DBs
Without Leonard Fournette in the building, this one becomes a much closer game to decide. It’s not that the A&M LBs/DBs are bad, it’s that Leonard Fournette is that good. I see this as a close matchup, made even closer by Danny Etling actually giving LSU a competent quarterback for the first time in what feels like a century. I think the absence of Armani Watts takes this close to a push, but Derrius Guice makes this an LSU advantage.
Advantage: LSU
Matchup: A&M WR/RB/QBs vs. LSU LB/DBs
A&M has so much talent in the offensive skill positions that it isn’t even funny. They’re littered with former 5 star and 4 star recruits, and Christian Kirk is absolutely lethal in the open field. LSU’s general strength at the defensive skill positions make me take pause, but I still think the Ags are favored here.
Advantage: A&M
The Verdict:
This game is at Kyle Field, and that alone should say it all. No amount of turkey dopamine sleepiness can keep that group of insane fans from being crazy. A&M wins and saves Kevin Sumlin’s job for now.
