Texas Stars Shine in College Football Playoffs
The Best Texas Athletes Competing In College Football Playoff National Championship
As the CFP Championship approaches, the two remaining undefeated programs will compete in Houston. Both #1 Michigan and #2 Washington will battle for the NCAA’s coveted top spot on the national stage. In preparation for the big game, we decided to evaluate the best Texas-born players on each roster. In particular, Washington features six athletes who attended high school in the state of Texas.
LaDarius Henderson, LT, Michigan
Although he originally attended ASU, Henderson transferred last season as a four-star tackle. He didn’t start until the first conference game versus Nebraska, earning Big 10 Offensive Player of the Week honors. He will start at Left Tackle in the CFP National Championship.
As a Waxahachie standout, Henry competed for head coach Shane Tolleson and formally Jon Kitna. In 2017, Henry was part of the team that played in the Regional Title game of the 2017 UIL 5A Division 2 Texas State Championship.
Jaivion Green, CB, Washington
The Lamar standout has played in every game this season, helping the Huskies compile a perfect record.
Through four seasons with the Texans, Green helped lead his team to a 7-3 overall record in his senior season, competing in the 6A Region II District18 championship.
Jabbar Muhammad, CB, Washington
The top defensive back on the Huskies, the DeSoto standout originally competed at Oklahoma State, earning both the College Football Network All-Big 12 Second Team and Honorable Mention All-Big 12. After three years, he transferred to Washington.
Currently, he leads a secondary at the top of the Pac-12 with 16 interceptions; he is currently tied for the team lead with three individual interceptions.
Ja’Lynn Polk, WR, Washington
Polk had arguably the most important grab of the Sugar Bowl. After tipping a ball through tight coverage, Polk caught it on the rebound and managed a 29-yard score. He boasts 60 catches for 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns entering the Sugar Bowl.
In his high school career, Polk finished as one of the best standout athletes in Lufkin history. He finished his career second all-time in both receptions (131) and receiving yards (2,412).
