Tigers Name 2-Time New Mexico State Champion as Head Coach
The Snyder Tigers football program made a big move this past week, naming Anthony Gonzales as their new head coach and athletic director.
Gonzales is coming to Snyder from New Mexico, where he led the Lovington Wildcats to state championships in 2021 and 2023. Before coaching Lovginton, Gonzales, originally from Boerne, spent time coaching in Texas as an assistant at Fort Worth Dunbar and Arlington Martin.
The job at Snyder became open when former head coach Wes Wood left to become the head coach at Merkel. Gonzales takes over a Tigers program that has gone 7-14 over the past two seasons and has only one season over .500 in the past 5 seasons. Snyder has yet to win or play in a state championship, and hope Gonzales can build a championship program like he did in New Mexico.
We are so excited to be apart of Snyder ISD and the awesome community. This is where the Lord wants us to be and we couldn’t be more excited. We are ready to go to work. You can feel the great energy in the air in this community and we are ready to pour in that! Lets Roll! #FE pic.twitter.com/0qYkj8aj3d
