Teams are trying to jockey for position in seeding and make a final playoff push as we head into week 9 of the season. Here is a look at games around the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex that will have an impact on the playoffs that might not be on your radar this week.

Colleyville Heritage (5-2) vs Grapevine (6-1)
Grapevine is coming off a three-point loss to Richland on Friday night and Heritage has won four games in a row. These teams sit second and third in 8-5A standings and with Richland leading the district, its destined that Grapevine is headed for Division II. This should be a shootout as the Panthers average 43 points per game and the Mustangs average 51.

Frisco Independence vs Frisco Wakeland
Independence is one of the surprise teams in the state, three years into their school’s history, they are knocking on the door of a playoff appearance. Independence is 2nd and Wakeland is 3rd in district so this game has major implications for seeding. It also features two of the best running backs in the state you have never heard of in Independence’s Dom Williams who has rushed for 1,379 yards and 20 touchdowns on the year and Wakeland’s Jay Orji who has 597 yards and nine touchdowns on the year.

TC Byron Nelson vs Southlake Carroll
Bryon Nelson shocked the state two weeks ago by beating Euless Trinity 21-20, then followed it up in a dominating win against Lewisville. The back-to-back wins have launched them into a four-way tie for third place in the ultra completive District 5-6A. It will be a tough task to make it three in a row as they will have to defeat #4 in our rankings Southlake led by Robert Barnes.

Waxahachie vs Mansfield Timberview
District 10-5A is the toughest district in the state. Waxahachie lost last week to Mansfield Legacy and lost their top spot in the district standings. Timberview is in 5th place in the district and needs a win to vault them back into playoff position.

Cedar Hill vs Grand Prairie
District 7-6A is another tough district in the area and this game has some massive playoff implications. Cedar Hill is 3rd and Grand Prairie is in 5th on the outside looking in. Cedar Hill has had some amazing 4th quarter comebacks from 20+ points down so no deficit is too big for them to come back from. The two wins in district for Grand Prairie have come against teams below them in the standings so they need to beat a team above them to have any chance at the playoffs and why not pull an upset against Cedar Hill.
