“Happily ever after” comes in many packages. While the most obvious for college competition is the national title, there is an array of ultimate accomplishments that teams chase or perhaps fortunately stumble upon. Such is the case with the 2016 Tulsa Golden Hurricane who concluded their season by attaining the epitome of balance and truly defining what it means to have a fully loaded offense.
The University of Tulsa reached an incredible feat as they wrapped up their season in the Miami Beach Bowl. The 2016 Hurricane became the first team in history to have a 3,000-yard passer, two 1,000-yard receivers, and two 1,000-yard rushers. Of the esteemed teammates, quarterback Dane Evans and receiver Keevan Lucas hail from the Lone Star State. Evans was a 3-year quarterback for Sanger High School where he passed for 9,074 yards and 94 touchdowns. He has accumulated more than 10,000 passing yards for Tulsa. Lucas attended Abilene High School where he helped lead his team to a 12-1 record his senior year. He racked up 1,825 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns before graduating early and enrolling at Tulsa. In 2014, Lucas caught 101 passes for 1,219 yards for the Hurricane, making the 1,180 receiving yards in 2016 his second time crossing the threshold.
The perfectly balanced offense is currently being honored at the College Football Hall of Fame where an assortment of the uniforms worn in their bowl game is currently on display. Visitors of the exhibit will have the opportunity to see Evans’ glove and towel, Lucas’ pants, Atkinson’s helmet, Brewer’s jersey, and Flander’s cleats.
Evans and Lucas both intend to pursue careers in professional football. The Hurricane will kick off their 2017 season September 2 against Oklahoma State.
