Eagles vs Eagles
This week, we released our first Top 25 Rankings list of this season (CLICK HERE for the list). In our rankings, we have the Allen Eagles at #6 and the Humble Atascocita Eagles.
Atascocita is a team that we are very excited to take the field for the first time this year. The Eagles are 23-4 over the past two seasons. Last season, they made it to the third round of the playoffs. This year, Head Coach Craig Stump returns 15+ starters, and has the team looking at making a run at the state championship.
Brice Matthews is a big loss for Atascocita. He had a great year last year, throwing for over 3,000 yards and 29 touchdowns, while running for nearly 500 yard and another 12 touchdowns. While they’ll have a new QB, he will be protected by a very good offensive line. Their question mark will be on defense. The eagles also have a great playmakers on offense, especially at the wide receiver position. We like their chances at a deep playoff run, but first they have to make it through a rough regular season schedule that seems them face the #1 team in the state, Galena Park North Shore, late in the season, and start the season off with the #6 team in the state, Allen.
We have the Allen Eagles as the #6 team in the state coming off a strong first week win verse Plano East, 49-26. (CLICK HERE for the game recap) Allen’s defense looked as good as advertised in week one, and their offense Allen has a two-quarterback rotation, both transfer from out of state. They both looked good in week one. They are passing to two Oklahoma State commits, Bryson and Blaine Green. The Eagles are looking to move to 2-0 before facing another Top 25 team, Cedar Hill in week three.
Allen is the safer pick in this battle of the Eagles. They have the better defense, and they are at home on a field in which they’ve never lost a game. But, this is a showdown of two of the best teams in Texas, one of the better matchups we will see all year, and we’d be surprised if this is not a one possession game heading into the fourth quarter.
