New Scarborough head coach Darris Lewis’ impact on his Spartans has been evident.
Scarborough currently sits at 2-0 for the first time since 2001, according to Greg Tepper. This past Friday, its 18-6 win over Houston Sharpstown was its first victory over a public school since it knocked off Houston Austin back in 2009. Its other six victories in that 13-year time span had all come against charter schools.
Sharpstown struck first, but a 47-yard rushing touchdown by Spartan receiver Jamarius Caston on a jet sweep tied proceedings up at six. From there, quarterback Orion Harvey added a 24-yard rushing touchdown and running back Cam Davis scored from five yards out to secure the victory for the Spartans.
The Spartans haven’t won three games in a season since 2005. However, they have an opportunity this week to reach that mark as they take on KIPP Northeast on Thursday. The Navigators have gotten the best of the Spartans the past two years, but Scarborough did beat them 7-0 back in 2019.
