3A Team of the Week: Grand Saline Indians
Grand Saline was looking to stay undefeated in district play this past weekend but faced a tough test against a 5-0 Edgewood team in the Highway 80 Rivalry.
That challenge looked even more daunting as Edgewood jumped out to a 17-0 second quarter lead.
However, Grand Saline quarterback Preston Anderson was unfazed. He delivered a 33-yard touchdown run before throwing touchdown passes of 37 yards and 8 yards to Brett Kindle and Hudson Griffin respectively to give Grand Saline a 20-17 lead in the third quarter.
Edgewood would retake the lead heading to the final period of play, but Grand Saline running back Payton Butterfield stepped into the role of hero with just two minutes to go as he broke off a 58-yard touchdown run to give Grand Saline the lead for good.
Edgewood had one last chance, but its 48-yard field goal came up just short and Grand Saline held on to a thrilling and memorable rivalry victory.
