Week 7 Texas HS Football 3A Team of the Week
3A Team of the Week: Rockdale Tigers
Rockdale might win the award for the craziest ending of the weekend with its fourth quarter heroics against Troy.
Troy took a 27-20 lead off a two-yard touchdown run by Kadyn Martinez with just 3:17 to go in the contest.
Unfazed, Tiger return man Deandre Stephens took the ensuing kickoff back to the Troy 48 yard line, and after the officials called a facemask penalty against the Trojans, Rockdale started with the football at the Troy 33 yard line.
From there it took just six plays for the Tigers to drive the remaining length of the field as junior quarterback Blaydn Barcak scored on a seven-yard quarterback keeper to knot the game at 27.
But Rockdale wasn’t done.
After forcing the Troy offense to go three-and-out, Rockdale defensive end Isaiah Sauls incredibly blocked the ensuing punt and returned it 10 yards for a touchdown, giving Rockdale the go-ahead score with just 47 seconds left (Highlight below starting at :10).
Rockdale would hold on to the improbable 34-27 victory, improving the Tigers to 2-4 on the season.
Next up for Rockdale will be a tough task as it’ll host Lorena, the defending 3A Division I State Champion.
