Shiner fought back with a 66-yard pass from Ryan Patterson to Keenan Hailey, but again, Refugio responded with another long run as sophomore Jordan King scored on a 45-yard touchdown scamper.
Continuing the pattern of Refugio’s fourth quarter success on the ground, Bland added another long touchdown run for good measure late on as Refugio secured a 38-27 victory.
Bland and King stole the show as Refugio’s rushing attack fired on all cylinders. Bland rushed for 295 yards and three touchdowns, while King accounted for 83 yards and two scores.
However, don’t expect this to be the last meeting between the two teams this year. They have met in the playoffs the last four years and another matchup seems likely this year with their continued dominance of 2A Division I Region IV.
