6A Team of the Week: Odessa Permian Panthers
A week after a heartbreaking 49-42 rivalry loss to Odessa, Permian had another rivalry game against Midland Legacy last Friday.
Yet again, it went down to the wire.
With Permian trailing 31-24, Panther running back Juzstyce Lara scored a touchdown with just 10 seconds to go. As an underdog on the road, Permian decided to go for the win right then and there.
The gamble paid off. Sophomore quarterback Jakob Garcia found Gage Murphy in the back corner of the end zone to put the Panthers ahead for good 32-31.

Lara had a big night out of the backfield, rushing for 148 yards and three touchdowns on 27 carries. Receiver Isaiah Welton was the only other Panther to score a touchdown in the game as Garcia connected with him for an eight-yard score.
The victory was an important one for Permian as it gets the Panthers back on track in the playoff race in District 2-6A. They are now 1-1 heading into this Friday’s game against Wolfforth Frenship, who is 0-2 in district despite being 5-2 on the season.
