5A Team of the Week: PSJA North Raiders
PSJA North delivered yet another statement victory this past Friday. In a highly anticipated showdown in the Valley between the Raiders and Edinburg Vela, it was all PSJA North.
The Raiders pitched their fourth shutout in five games in a dominant 30-0 victory over the Sabercats.
Offensively, their ground game churned out yardage throughout the night. Jason Montez finished with 101 yards rushing, while Ethan Guerrea added 73 yards and two touchdowns. Quarterbacks Julius Arredondo and Alejandro Aparicio also each had touchdown runs.

On the other side of the ball, Raider cornerback Leroy Palacios had an interception, while defensive lineman Danny Garcia led the way in the trenches with 12 tackles, including two for loss.
Off the back of this latest win, PSJA North has moved up to eighth in the statewide 5A Division I rankings. The Raiders have certainly shown they are a team that can make some noise in the playoffs this year.
Looking ahead, they’ll be on a bye this week before continuing district play on Oct. 5 with a home game against La Joya Palmview.
