Grandfalls-Royalty and Balmorhea are pretty familiar with each other, but lately it has been a lopsided series.
Balmorhea had won 11 of the last 12 meetings and entered this year’s district opener as 18-point favorites, according to sixmanfootball.com.
Grandfalls-Royalty threw all of that right out the window on Friday night.
Cowboys quarterback Aiden Dominguez threw for 126 yards and three touchdowns and Gino Cruz rushed for 123 yards and a score as Grandfalls-Royalty blew Balmorhea out of the water 69-28.
“I was pleased with the preparation our players put in to get ready for the game, knowing that the game had playoff implications,” Grandfalls-Royalty head coach Jourmain Matta said. “With that, they executed our game plan just as we wanted. Knocking off Balmorhea is always a plus for us and gives us the confidence needed to make a potential playoff run.”
HIGHLIGHTS: Grandfalls-Royalty handed Balmorhea its first loss of the season, 69-28! It was an all-around great effort from Jourmain Matta and the Cowboys.

In the passing attack, Burns had four catches for 75 yards and two scores, while Cruz had three catches for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively, Burns had four tackles for loss, and Adrian Brandenburg had an interception.
