Katy Taylor is in the midst of a remarkable turnaround. A year after finishing 2-6 in district play, the Mustangs sat at 4-1 in 19-6A action heading into their showdown against #22 Katy Jordan last Friday.
Despite being an underdog in the game, the Mustangs proved their mettle. They delivered a complete performance in all three phases of the game in a huge 30-24 victory.
With the game tied at 14 coming out of half, a pick-six by Josiah Rodriguez and an 89-yard kickoff return for touchdown by Kameron Green propelled the Mustangs to a 17-point third quarter that gave them the breathing room they needed to hang on to the victory.
Quarterback Daniel Bruns had an 81-yard passing touchdown to Jeremy McCullough in the first half, while Dante Archie paced the ground game with 53 rushing yards on 17 carries.
With the win, Taylor is now in sole possessions of second place in District 19-6A. The Mustangs will now travel to Katy Paetow this Friday. If they win that game, they’ll set up a winner-take-all showdown against Katy for the district title in the final week of the season.
