Week Seven Six-Man Team of the Week: Covington
Six-Man Team of the Week: Covington Owls
Streaks all have to come to an end at some point. Covington played a big part in potentially ending two long streaks last Friday.
The Owls handed Blum its first district loss since November 4, 2016, snapping the Bobcats’ 24-game district winning streak. Now, the Owls hope this victory will propel them towards snapping their 26-year playoff drought. Two wins from their final three games will likely help them achieve that milestone.
Covington’s defense played a big role the 44-28 victory, forcing three Blum turnovers.
The Owls also got some big plays from their offensive playmakers. Running back Josh Rives had a 27-yard touchdown run in the first half. Hector Duron slipped behind the Blum defense for a 34-yard touchdown reception in the third quarter before fighting off three Blum tacklers for an impressive 20-yard score on a pass from Kaden Dorsey in the final quarter.
Covington is now 3-4 on the season, although all three of those wins have come in its last four games. The Owls will hope to stay hot this Friday when they host Avalon in another important District 11-1A Division I matchup.
