Week Six 4A Team of the Week: Iowa Colony

4A Team of the Week: Iowa Colony Pioneers

Iowa Colony took its lumps at times last year in its first year of varsity football. Playing with just freshmen and sophomores, the Pioneers finished 2-8. However, four of those defeats were by just one possession.

This year, despite playing without a senior class, everything is clicking. This past Friday, Iowa Colony got its revenge for one of those one-possession defeats from last year.

But it didn’t come easy.

The Pioneers trailed Stafford 31-21 in the fourth quarter. However, a field goal and a 42-yard touchdown run by Aaron Tenner knotted the game up at 31 with just minutes remaining.

After its defense forced a stop, the Pioneers got the ball back and didn’t waste the opportunity. On fourth down and ten, quarterback Carson White flashed his athleticism, scrambling from the pocket before racing away from Stafford defenders for a go-ahead 40-yard touchdown with just 57 seconds remaining.

With the 38-31 victory, Iowa Colony improves to 5-0 on the season. Their rushing attack was key to that success as Tenner finished with 192 yards and two touchdowns and White rushed for 108 yards and two scores on just three carries.

The Pioneers will aim to keep their perfect season going this Friday when they host a Brazosport side that is still winless on the season.
