Six-Man Team of the Week: Oglesby Tigers
There’s something special brewing in Oglesby. The Tigers left no doubt after a 54-8 shellacking of May, the previously ninth ranked team in 1A Division I, this past Friday.
Kyler Fossett rushed for 160 yards on nine carries, while EJ Aviles added 86 yards on six carries. Both finished with three touchdowns. In the passing game, quarterback Hunter Walter was a perfect four-for-four, throwing for 117 yards and a score.
Defensively, Aviles and Johnny Gomez led the Tigers with nine tackles apiece. Landon Williamson also had an interception.
A year ago, Oglesby finished 11-1, falling to eventual state semifinalist Oakwood in the area round.
But this season, the Tigers appear to be the most likely challenger to Benjamin in 1A Division II even though the two teams wouldn’t meet until the state title game.
For now, Oglesby will focus on keeping its undefeated regular season alive when it hosts Bronte this Friday in what is currently its last scheduled game before district play.
