Brookshire-Royal hadn’t won more than four games in a single season since 2010.
Until Friday night.
The Falcons had finished their non-district slate undefeated, but they faced a tough district opener against Sealy.
Touchdowns were at a premium as the teams headed to halftime tied at 3.
However, Mauricio Diaz booted a 21-yard field goal and sophomore quarterback Ashton Robinson connected with Dashawn Adams for a 16-yard touchdown in the third quarter to give Royal a 13-3 advantage.
That ended up being enough offense for the win as the Falcons held onto a 13-10 victory over the Tigers.
Robinson finished with 214 yards passing while fellow sophomore Zakai Anderson paced the Falcons’ ground game with 165 yards on 25 carries.
Afterwards, the two teams shared a cool moment as ABC13 captured Sealy head coach Shane Mobley encouraging both teams after their hard-fought district battle.
GREAT moment after the Royal-Sealy game – @SealyTigersFB HC Shane Mobley spoke to BOTH teams.
"Ya'll made us better tonight, hopefully we made ya'll better."
