Week Ten 6A Team of the Week: Cypress Springs
6A Team of the Week: Cypress Springs Panthers
For the first time in 20 years, Cypress Springs is going dancing.
A late 30-yard field goal by Panthers kicker Raphael Heredia propelled Cypress Springs to a 30-28 victory over Cypress Woods on Friday. With the win, Cypress Springs locked up just its second playoff berth in school history.
Cypress Springs trailed 14-0 in the first half, but fought back with rushing touchdowns Harrison Mass and Timothy Saunders. A 10-yard touchdown pass from Saunders to Paris Melvin Jr. tied the game at 21 in the early second quarter.
From there, Heredia’s three field goals were all Cypress Springs needed to earn the win.
Cy Springs clinches a playoff spot for the first time since 2003 with a field goal in the final minutes as the Panthers knock off Cy Woods 30-28.

The Panthers are now 8-1 on the season. It’s an impressive turnaround considering they had won just two games in the previous three seasons before head coach Oji Fagan took over in 2021.
They will wrap up their regular season this Thursday when they take on Bridgeland. A win in that game would create a tie atop the district standings with the Bears currently at 6-0 and the Panthers right behind them tied with Cypress Falls at 5-1 in district play.
