Westlake Cruises In First Round Over Round Rock

Round Rock Hail Roof Inspection

Westlake kept Round Rock from getting in the end zone, restricting the Dragons to a single field goal. In fact, the score gave Round Rock some confidence, taking their only lead 3-0 on a 30-yard boot by Kai Haruki. After that, the Chaparral’s defense locked down the Dragons, keeping Dragons quarterback Mason Cochran from doing much of anything.

It was an impressive showing to one of the state’s best teams, earning a 35-3 bi-district win in the opening round of the Class 6A Division I playoffs Friday at Chaparral Stadium.

Quarterback Rees Wise tossed two touchdown passes to Grady Bartlett; his first 24-yard receiving score gave the Chaps the lead with 3:03 left in the first, his second was a 4-yard reception on the first play of the second quarter. Wise also ran in for a score.

By halftime, Westlake was in command 21-3. After a scoreless stalemate in the third quarter, the Chaparrals finished the job with a pair of touchdowns by running back Jack Kayser in the last period.

For Round Rock, it’s another early postseason exit, following last year’s Class 6A Division I bi-district playoff against Lake Travis.

The undefeated Westlake takes on fellow undefeated San Antonio Reagan in the area round next week at Seguin Matador Stadium. The teams last competed in the 2016 playoffs, where our team was on hand to see the Chaps clobber the Rattlers.
