And that makes it 52.
Westlake continued their historic streak Friday at Ratter Stadium, knocking off the New Braunfels Unicorns in the area round for the Class 6A-Division I football playoffs, triumphing 45-14.
The Chaparrals 52nd consecutive win will put them in the regional round against San Benito next week.
Westlake running back Jack Kayser had himself a game, managing 241 total yards, four rushing touchdowns, and a receiving touchdown. It wasn’t even a career day Kayser: he scored six touchdowns in last season’s 70-7 win over Vandegrift in the Class 6A Division II Region IV finals. He now has consecutive varsity seasons of 1,000 yards.
Westlake seniors Jaden Greathouse and Colton Vasek also did their part. Notre Dame commit Greathouse scored touchdowns on a reception and a punt return, also hurling a scoring pass. Texas defensive end pledge Vasek led a pass rush that managed four sacks.
As the school continues to clutter their win column, they have the potential to make history, aiming to become the first school in Texas history to win four straight championships in the state’s largest classification.
