Woodville ISD made it official Tuesday morning: Heath Clawson is the new athletic director and head football coach at Woodville High School. Matt Stepp of Dave Campbell’s Texas Football first reported the news.
Clawson takes over a program fresh off its best season in school history — a 13-3 campaign ending with a trip to the UIL Class 3A Division II state title game under former head coach Ty Robinson. Robinson left the program earlier this offseason to take over at Crawford.

“When the job opened, I was intrigued due to the recent success, and when the search firm reached out, I wanted to explore the opportunity,” Clawson told Dave Campbell’s. “I had a cousin who lived there for a couple of years and had nothing but amazing things to say about the community.”
Clawson brings a strong résumé. He spent the last four seasons at Elgin, rebuilding a struggling program into a playoff contender. After going winless in 2021, he led the Wildcats to a 7-4 record in 2022 and helped secure Elgin’s first playoff win in a decade during the 2024 season.
“Elgin has been wonderful to my family,” Clawson said. “The hardest part is leaving the kids and the community — but they’ll always be family to me.”
Before his time at Elgin, Clawson was part of Aledo’s dominant run in 2019 and 2020 as the running backs coach, helping the Bearcats win back-to-back state titles. He also served as head coach at Louise from 2016 to 2019, taking the Hornets to three straight playoff appearances.
Now, Clawson steps into a Woodville program loaded with talent and momentum. The Eagles are expected to remain a major contender in Region III, and Clawson says he’s ready to get to work.
“I want to meet the kids, get out in the community, and build relationships,” he said. “We’re going to make Woodville athletics great in every facet.”
