RB Zach Evans ran for 178 yards and 3 touchdowns as Rockwall-Heath cruised past North Mesquite 62-21. Heath QB Josh Hoover passed for 269 yards and three touchdowns, as the Hawks gained 583 total yards and 27 first downs.
Heath Blows Past North Mesquite
Heath reeled off 35 unanswered points in the 1st half after being down 14-0.
North Mesquite’s Fae’jon Gillyard intercepted Hoover’s pass on Heath’s first play from scrimmage. QB Luke Seder then tossed a scoring pass to Cam Tyler to take an early 7-0 lead.
North Mesquite recovered the fumbled kickoff at the Heath 30-yard line. Seder threw a 21-yard pass to Cordale Russell to make it 14-0 with a little over two minutes left in the 1st quarter.
Evans scored on an 8-yard run to get Rockwall on the scoreboard. Then Hoover hit WR Jay Fair for an 11-yard touchdown to tie the game at 14-14.
Hoover hit WR Jordan Nabors for a 70-yard strike and score about midway through the 2nd quarter to give the Hawks the lead they would never relinquish.
RB Brittan Snider scored on a 2-yard run later on in the quarter.
Evans added another score on a 3-yard touchdown run to make the score 35-14 in favor of the Hawks at halftime.
2nd Half Scoring Barrage
Fair caught 6 passes for 146 yards and a touchdown. Nabors caught 4 balls for 123 yards and a score.
Seder found WR Ja’lan Hicks for a 75-yard touchdown in the 3rd quarter to make the score 35-21, and that would be the end of the scoring for the Stallions.
Seder finished the game with 141 passing yards to lead North Mesquite, who fell to 1-5.
But the Hawks weren’t finished scoring in the 3rd quarter. Fair scored on a 77-yard pass from Hoover. RB Malachi Tuenso scored on a 2-yard run. And Evans scored again on a 29-yard run to make the score 56-21.
QB Colin Liles came in for Hoover in the 4th quarter and scored on an 11-yard run to increase the Hawks’ lead to 62-21. Final score: Rockwall-Heath 62 – North Mesquite 21.
