Bob Stoops and Lincoln Riley once again have a 2018 quarterback on board after Waco Midway gunslinger Tanner Mordecai announced his commitment to the Oklahoma Sooners on Thursday afternoon.

A three-star dual-threat prospect, Mordecai’s pledge to the Sooners comes as a bit of a surprise. Along with his recruitment being help mostly under wraps, the Waco native was largely considered a Baylor lean, but his early May offer from Oklahoma clearly shifted the trajectory of his recruitment.
In total, Mordecai held 18 total offers, including invitations from Baylor, Kansas State, Georgia, North Carolina and Ole Miss, among others. Mordecai’s commitment now gives Stoops’ 2018 class eight total pledges and part of a haul that currently ranks No. 24 nationally and No. 4 in the Big 12, per 247Sports Composite. More notably, Mordecai’s pledge once again gives Oklahoma a high-level gunslinger to build its class around after highly-touted California native Cameron Rising flipped to Texas in late April.
As a junior, Mordecai completed 119-of-197 attempts for 1,716 yards and 13 touchdowns, along with another 517 yards and eight scores with his legs.
At 6’2.5, 213 pounds, Mordecai ranks as the nation’s No. 421 player, No. 15 dual-threat quarterback and the No. 56 player in Texas, per 247Sports Composite.
