With the season fast approaching, the time is now for many of the smaller-school athletes to impress colleges. Many great athletes from Texas developed at a smaller school and went on for greatness—Adrian Peterson, just to name one. With that in mind, our good friends over at MaxPreps recently released their Top Offensive All-Americans from Medium sized schools. And no surprise, there were three Texas players named on the list.
The first Texas name on the list is a wide receiver from Stafford. Hezekiah Jones is a six-foot, four star athlete who excels at being a patient receiver and getting separation at the right moment. Jones, who is predicted to commit with Texas A&M (via 247sports Crystal Ball), has gained offers from almost every school in Texas.
On July 4th, Jones named a top five including Alabama, Auburn, Houston and Notre Dame. Heading into his senior campaign Jones has already set a standard at Stafford.
During his first three seasons, Jones has accumulated 16 receiving touchdowns and is an outstanding returner who is dangerous in open field. As a freshman, Jones finished 3rd in the 200 meters at the State Track meet with the fastest time in the country for a freshman. There are no doubts with Jones; he can run.

J.K. Dobbins is the next name to grace the list. Dobbins is the running back from La Grange, Texas. Dobbins, at 5’9” and 200 pounds, is a force to be reckoned with. It’s no surprise that he’s committed to Ohio State, one of the premier programs in the country. Much like Jones, Dobbins possesses an incredible break away speed and is lethal in the open field.
Ranked as the number three all-purpose back in the country, Dobbins received offers from a slew of large colleges. Texas, Oklahoma and Florida State were all in the running before Dobbins committed to Ohio State.
Dobbins had an outstanding couple of years for La Grange, accumulating a surplus of 70 rushing touchdowns over the past two seasons.
Last but not least is Jaylen Gipson, from Mexia, Texas. Gipson is listed as an athlete but played high school football as a dual-threat quarterback. A three star prospect, Gipson is a 190 pound 6’2” quarterback who can also run a 4.60 40-yard dash. There is a lot of appeal with dual-threat quarterback in college as it gives the offensive coaches more flexibility with their game plan. Gipson has received offers from Texas Tech, Texas State, Colorado State and three other schools, but remains undecided. During his junior season, Gipson accrued 17 all-purpose touchdowns.
