Today is a special day. It’s January 2nd, the Rose Bowl is about to be played, the Sugar Bowl will be going on later tonight, but one of the most interesting games will be played in the early afternoon. Twitter’s favorite team, Western Michigan, will take on Wisconsin in the Cotton Bowl.

If you’re unfamiliar with Western Michigan, they’re from the MAC, they’re undefeated yet still clearly the underdog in this matchup, and they’re home to PJ Fleck and the greatest team slogan of all time, “Row The Boat”, which has become a slogan that people have come to love across the nation.

Western Michigan is extreme levels of likable, they’re just a fun program and a fun team to be around. They haven’t been dominant enough to merit playoff talk, but rooting for them is just as fun as anyone else. The Broncos are an excited bunch, sometimes win they win PJ Fleck hangs from pipes.

It hasn’t come easy for the Broncos this season. Their most recent matchup was the MAC championship, a close contest with Ohio. In that game, a senior Texan was crucial.

Enter Carrington Thompson, a product of Houston Lamar and Northwood University. After suffering an almost definite concussion against Central Michigan, he came back stronger than ever, and posted a career best night against Eastern Michigan in the same month. He was insane on that night, catching 8 passes for 177 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Today, Thompson will look to end his career right against an excellent defense from Wisconsin. The Broncos will definitely be the underdogs in this game, but the bright lights of the Cotton Bowl won’t be too bright for one Bronco. Thompson is rowing the boat all the way home, and if he can get open a few times, he might bring home a win too.
