2018 Recruit Analysis: Allen RB Brock Sturges

To be an underrated playmaker at Allen is a difficult task to say the least, considering the Eagles’ depth. The rushing attack is considered one of the best 1-2 punches in the state. However, Brock Sturges has flown under the radar from a majority of schools in the country, but that might all be changing come 2017.

With the departure of Kirby Bennett to Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, Sturges has a chance to handle the majority of the touches in the Eagles backfield. While many argue that Sturges was the more productive of the two backs, it seems as if the two were hindering each other from reaching the numbers they desired. Now, becoming the feature backs in their respective offenses, both can be expected to increase their production exponentially, and Sturges is relishing the opportunity.

Sturges has garnered much attention throughout the state, picking up 1,138 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2016. With Texas A&M and UT said to be high on this particular rising senior. They might have a tough battle on their hands to land Sturges, however. With this former Seven Lakes running back’s production sure to rise in the next season, rumor mills are predicting bigger offers on their way and will be coming fast.

A strong runner, but also possessing deceptive feet, coaches are impressed with the all-around skill set of Sturges. For such a young talent, one can see the intelligent runner Brock is when he decides to run between the tackles. With an ability to also catch the ball out of the backfield, this Eagles talent can become a viable and versatile weapon in many college offenses.

Sturges is expected to stay in state and he is high on Tom Herman’s list, one could see a very mutualistic relationship being built between the Eagle and the Longhorns. A late charge from Kevin Sumlin’s staff however could prove to sway his decision. Of course, this will all be dependent on the start of the season that Sturges has, especially with the recent news of Allen opening the season against fellow state power Cedar Hill in week one. This could be the showcase Sturges needs to catch the attention of the nation’s top schools, but it will be up to him now to prove that he can be star of the show in Eagle Stadium this campaign.
