The State 7 on 7 tournament is upon us, the pools are set, and the teams are making travel arrangements. Here are five pool play games that are going to be must-see when you get to College Station.
Lake Travis – Coppell
The newest iteration of the high-flying Lake Travis Cavaliers will cap off their pool play with a game against Brady McBride and Coppell. In a duel of teams with black and red color schemes, the best pro-style quarterback will reign supreme.
Manvel – Hutto
Manvel is insanely talented, and will likely end up being a state title favorite. Let’s not completely count Hutto and Chase Griffin out though, they definitely have the acumen to take this Maverick team head-on.
Katy – Mesquite Poteet
Poteet has some incredible talent, including new quarterback Cam Lampkin, who will look to make an extreme splash this fall. Katy is, well, Katy. They’re always at least good. We’ll get a small preview of the Katy newcomers in this one, as the Pirates will definitely test their speed.
DeSoto – Longview
Oh man, the speed in this one. Pool I is undoubtedly the most difficult pool in the entire tournament, it features not only Longview and DeSoto but Pearland and Lubbock Coronado. You shouldn’t need any explanation for this pick, it’s DeSoto and Longview, there’s going to be multiple speedsters on both sides, and you might catch a glimpse of the future of someone’s college football program.
College Station – Waxahachie
Waxahachie is entering the first year without Jalen Reagor in some time, and the offseason after starting 6-0 and missing the playoffs had to be a long one. To further put this in context, the Indians beat a state champion (Highland Park), and didn’t make the playoffs. College Station had a fantastic run in 2016, and only lost one game by a total of one point. Which one of these teams is capable of a run? Well, we’ll have some more information after their 4 PM matchup.
