If you were looking for a week of absolute chaos in Texas high school football, then week 10 was for you. We saw traditional powers get knocked out of the playoff race, we witnessed numerous upsets and a few teams made the playoffs for the first time in years. Here are a few of the highs and lows that this week had to offer.

The Highs

● The Bruceville-Eddy Eagles haven’t made the playoffs since 1985, but thanks to the Marlin Bulldogs defeating New Waverly 35-19, the Eagles have officially made the playoffs for the first time in 32 years.

● The Grand Prairie Gophers haven’t made the playoffs since 1989, but the resilient Gophers defeated the Tigers of Irving High 43-16 on Friday to snap the 28 year playoff drought.

● The Kaufman Lions are good, very good to be exact. The Lions were able to upset the the #8 Van Vandals 43-35 on Friday, this victory clinched the District 8 4A Championship for the Lions. https://texashsfootball.com/kaufman-roars-postseason-seals-undisputed-district-8-4a-1-titl e-upset-ap-no-8-van/

● Smithson Valley as is one of the best programs in the San Antonio area year in and year out, but the Rangers find themselves overshadowed by programs like Cibolo Steele and Converse Judson. The Rangers made a statement on Friday night though, as they upset 6A #2 Converse Judson on the road 40-37. https://texashsfootball.com/judson-upset-makes-three-way-district-tie/

● The #5 Malakoff Tigers have been mauling their opponents this season and were the favorite to win the district 9 3A D1 title, but the Teague Lions had other plans. Teague was able to upset the Tigers in dominant fashion 35-14 on Friday and now Teague, Malakoff, and West are all 5-1 in district play.

The Lows

● The 1A D1 #5 White Deer Bucks went seven weeks without allowing a single point to an opponent, but in class 1a only two teams from each district can make the playoffs. The Bucks entered district play with a record of 5-0 and finished the season with a record of 6-2. White Deer will miss the playoffs after dropping their final two district games to Happy and McLean, even though they have an overall winning record.

● There are certain teams that everyone expects to see in the playoffs at the end of every season and one of those teams is Cedar Hill. The Longhorns were forced to forfeit a district victory over Grand Prairie last week https://texashsfootball.com/cedar-hill-ineligible-player-forfeit/ and then fell short to South Grand Prairie on Friday 14-10. This is the first time since the 2004 season that Cedar Hill will miss the playoffs.

● When a team scores 71 points in game most people will assume that they won, but what if they actually lost by 47 points? Milford was able to defeat Oakwood 118-71 making this bizarre scenario a reality. The Oakwood Panthers faced off against district foe #5 Milford Bulldogs on Friday night, but the Bulldogs were just too strong for the Panthers in the end.

● The #7 Abernathy Antelopes have been dominating their opponents this season, but that all came to halt on Friday. The Antelopes received a taste of their own medicine, when the New Deal Lions pounced all over them 41-20. The loss gives New Deal sole possession of first place in district 2 2A D1.

● After starting the season 5-0, Amarillo Tascosa turned some heads across the state. The Rebels started district play with a victory over Odessa High 36-9, but were handed their first loss of the season in week 7 by Midland Lee 56-42. Friday night the Rebels lost a very pivotal game to Midland High 49-42. Tascosa will likely miss the playoffs this season, they are currently 2-3 in district play and have to face juggernaut San Angelo Central on the road to close the season.
