Hutto Looking Forward To Tough Game With Consolidated

The combined record between Hutto and A&M Consolidated is 19-3. The two programs meet up for an area-round matchup at Waller ISD Stadium on Friday.

Both teams can play quick, and that will not change Friday night.

Hungry, Hungry Hippos

The Hutto Hippos (10-1) have an offense that would haunt Kliff Kingsbury if he coached at this level. The Hippos have averaged 326 passing yards a game and scored 70 touchdowns in 11 games.

Led by junior quarterback Chase Griffin. He has thrown for more than 3,5000 yards, 37 touchdowns, and two interceptions. Under his command, the air raid offense in Hutto has two receivers with more than 1,000 yards and the rest are benefiting as well.

Hutto coach Steven Van Meeter said his main goal is that all of his receivers are on the minds of everyone on the Consolidated sideline.

“I think that’s important but when you run an air raid offense, you’re going to what the defense wants to give you,” Van Meter said. “If they’re going to take away DJ (Baptist) then Caleb (Forrest) and Caden Dykowski will have a big night. If they play straight two-zone, we’ll spread the ball out and have a plethora of receivers catching. When we have six to eight kids with catches, I think that’s when we’re at our best.”

Angry Tigers

Consolidated ain’t no slouch. The Tigers have an extremely strong defense. A good defensive front, matched with an excellent secondary that plays great in zone look to make life tough for the Hippos.

On offense, they’ll run the spread but rely more on an option than Hutto. This year, the Tigers have played, and won, with three different quarterbacks. The guy who should be getting the snaps this week, though, will be Daylan Faltysek.

Faltysek has similar stats to the other two throwers the Tigers have used. His running, though, is what separates him. It’s because of that, and the talent of receivers to extend plays, Van Meeter thinks he’ll see more of Faltysek Friday night.

“When they do scramble, they’ll hurt you with their eyes downfield,” Van Meeter said. “[Faltysek] keeps his eyes downfield and their receivers do well on the scramble drill.”

Quiet Down

The offense may be a highlight to most and to these teams, it’s certainly something they’re good at. But the defense could be the part that wins this game. Van Meeter pointed toward Consolidated’s own defense that can shut down the best of them.

In fact, this year has been very good for the Tigers defense, as it has allowed 16.45 points a game, and sacked quarterbacks 22 times.

“I think Consolidated is so good on defense, they’re not going to give up a ton of points, they haven’t all year,” Van Meeter said. “…I look for that kind of game, to be honest. I don’t think it’ll be a high scoring game, I think it’ll be a hard-fought game with minimal scoring.”
