WICHITA FALLS — Parker McGrew appeared in every touchdown on the scoring summary for Muenster, tossing five scores and rushing for one extra to guide the Hornets to a 41-7 win at Wichita Falls Memorial Stadium Friday night.
“They loaded the box on us to stop the run, but the receivers did a great job catching the ball,” noted Muenster coach Brady Carney.
The rushing unit still performed well with a total of 202 yards in the contest, but McGrew stole the show in the air, completing 12 passes for 261 yards to go along with the aforementioned five touchdowns.
Muenster got the scoring started at the 5:54 mark in the opening quarter with McGrew’s first passing score, a 60 yard toss to Carson Trubenbach. The junior signal-caller completed a pair of touchdown passes in the second quarter with 46 and 24 yard passes to Clay Stevens and Danny Lutmer.
The only non passing touchdown for the Hornets came in the third quarter, with a 29 yard scamper by McGrew.
Muenster’s defense was solid as well, holding the Moguls to just 65 yards passing; Munday’s only touchdown came with four seconds remaining in the game with an 11 yard run by Alex Thorn.
“That unit continues to play outstanding,” boasted Carney. “It’s what we pride ourselves on.”
Trubenbach hauled in three passes for 89 yards and a touchdown, leading the unit in yardage. Lutmer also tallied three catches, with 60 yards on top of his two touchdowns.
McGrew added 62 yards on the ground to go along with one touchdown, while Stevens recorded 55 yards on 14 carries.
Muenster is through to round four again after being eliminated by the Moguls in this round last season. The Hornets are slated to face off against an always potent Albany squad, but Carney was quick to stress the importance of a normal routine.
“Preparations won’t be any different. Albany is a well-coached team, and it’ll come down to who can make the most plays. We’re in that time of year now where you got to execute.”
The contest is set to take place next week at Hawk Stadium in Iowa Park, with a 7:00 P.M. kickoff Friday night.
Munday’s season ends in the third round, this season being the second consecutive playoff year. The Moguls record concludes at 9-4.
