Although eight Texas teams were bowl eligible, only seven of them will go bowling this year. The one left out, UTSA, went 6-5. But the others have some pretty interesting match ups. Here they are, in order of dates.
UNT
The Mean Green are the second game of the bowl season. They get Troy in the New Orleans Bowl on December 16. Troy went 10-2 this season, this will be an underrated matchup.
SMU
SMU is playing the game everyone has been predicting for a while now. Going to the Frisco Bowl to play Louisiana Tech will be interesting. The Bulldogs won its last game of the year to become bowl eligible. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. December 20.
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders are getting a tough matchup. They will play in the Birmingham Bowl at noon on December 23. The opponent? USF (9-2), headed by coach Charlie Strong, who went 2-1 against Tech while at Texas.
Houston
The Cougs will be the only game on Christmas Eve and they get to go somewhere most people would kill to go. Houston is going to Hawaii to play Fresno State in the Hawaii Bowl.
Texas
The Longhorns are going back to the Texas Bowl, this time it draws a matchup with Missouri. The former Big 12 team has a pretty good offense, it’ll be interesting to see which unit plays better. Texas’ defense, or the Tigers offense. This game is December 27 at 9 p.m.
TCU
This may be the best bowl of all Texas teams. The Horned Frogs are going to San Antonio for the Alamo Bowl. Stanford and Heisman candidate Bryce Love will be there December 28 at 9 p.m.
Texas A&M
So many were hoping the Aggies would get to play Texas in a bowl game. Instead, it’ll get Wake Forest in the Belk Bowl. Friday, December 29 to take on the 7-5 Demon Deacons.
