Entering the Class 4A Division I state championship on Friday afternoon, the focus around the Carthage Bulldogs was centered around star running back and Texas commit Keaontay Ingram. The Longhorn commit showcased his talents, finishing with 163 yards and three touchdowns.
As well as he played, it was the Bulldog passing game that got things rolling for Carthage. Junior quarterback Gunner Capps put together one of the best performances of the season, throwing for 365 yards and three touchdowns en route to a 49-21 win over the Kennedale Wildcats.
His strong effort earned the gunslinger the TexasHSFootball MVP of the Game, presented by VCRNow.

Capps opened things up in the first quarter with touchdown passes to DeWaylon Ingram and a 64-yard strike to Mekhi Colbert. He would add a 76-yard strike to Dee Bowens to cap off an impressive performance.
As the winner of the MVP award, Capps will receive a commemorative custom MVP football, a full scholarship to the Football University Camp of their choice as well as an image collage.
