DESOTO, Texas — Eagles’ Head Coach Todd Peterman announced Thursday he would resign from his post at the end of the school year per a report by The Dallas Morning News sparked by a letter to the school district announcing his intentions.
“After much thought and consideration, I believe it to be in my best interest for my family to pursue other coaching opportunities,” Peterman stated in the letter.
The move comes less than a year after his job status was in flux regarding the renewal of his contract. The DeSoto ISD school board did ultimately decide to renew his contract after an April 24 meeting that the Board of Trustees voted against it. No action was taken at that meeting.
Peterman also told The Dallas Morning News that he was not asked to resign and was not reassigned by the school district.
He will leave the program with a 32-8 overall record as a head coach, including a 16-0 season that culminated with the first state championship in program history.
DeSoto went 10-2 this season, losing to Southlake Carroll in the second round of the playoffs.
The school district indicated in a news release that Peterman “remains in good standing with DeSoto ISD.”
