FORT WORTH — According to a Thursday evening press release, Texas Christian University named former Horned Frogs standout Jeremy Modkins as cornerbacks coach.
Patterson confirmed both the move and that Paul Gonzales, who had coached cornerbacks, will become the safeties coach. Defensive coordinator Chad Glasgow will move from safeties to linebackers coach.
Jeremy’s brother, Curtis, was also a TCU standout between 1989 and 1992 and has been a longtime assistant coach in the NFL. He is currently the Denver Broncos’ running backs coach.
Jeremy played for Gary Patterson and TCU from between 2001 and 2005 at free safety. He was second on the team with 99 tackles and had two of his five career interceptions as a senior. During his career, he earned a second-team all-conference selection and the program’s Defensive Most Valuable Player as a senior.
The four-year letterman with 35 career starts tied for third in tackles (67 solo) in 2005. Jeremy served as a defensive analyst for the Horned Frogs the previous four seasons.
The Marlin native totaled a season-high 12 tackles and a forced fumble in a 2005 victory over Utah to snap the Utes’ 18-game winning streak. He closed his career with five tackles — including one for loss — while forcing a fumble and breaking up two passes in the 27-24 win against Iowa State in the Houston Bowl.
Jeremy played in the NFL with the Cleveland Browns and Green Bay Packers, but returned to TCU as a graduate student during the 2997 and 2008 seasons. He will attempt o help shore up a defensive unit that was No. 19 in the country and No. 1 in the Big 12.
The new Horned Frog cornerbacks coach will also attempt to fill holes created by the graduation of Isaiah Alexander and Ranthony Texada. Smithson Valley’s Trevon Moehrig-Woodard, a 6-foot-2 three-star cornerback, and West Fellciana’s (LA) Derius Davis, a 5-foot-9 three-star defender, could help fill the void.
