Duncanville’s Reginald Samples Goes for 300th Win vs DeSoto
Duncanville Head Coach Reginald Samples (63-16 record with the Panthers) goes for his 300th career win as the Duncanville Panthers travel to DeSoto to take on the Eagles (2-1) on Friday night.
Coach Samples has a 299-86-2 career record.
The Panthers have not had much success against DeSoto, going just 3-10 against the Eagles. Duncanville did defeat DeSoto in the 2020 playoffs 56-28.
A Winning Culture
Coach Samples was hired in 2015 at Duncanville and quickly went to work to change the culture. In Samples’ first season at Duncanville in 2015, the Panthers went 2-8. The Panthers then lost 8 games total over the next five seasons, going 61-8 since.
He has posted 19 winning seasons in his career.
In 2018, the Panthers, for the first time in two decades, earned a trip to the State Championship game vs Galena Park North Shore and finished 14-1. The Duncanville defense pitched six shutouts that season.
Coach Samples led the Panthers to the State Championship game again in 2019 (15-1 record) vs Galena Park North Shore. The Panthers’ defense shut out five teams in the run-up to the championship game.
Coach Samples also led the Panthers to a state semi-finals appearance in 2020 (10-2 record).
Reginald Samples-Coaching Success
Prior to his hiring at Duncanville, Samples served as head football coach for 25 years in the Dallas ISD, including ten years at Dallas Skyline. During his tenure there, the Raiders participated in the state playoffs every season.
Skyline recorded 19 wins in the state playoffs in six years. The Raiders also won six consecutive district titles.
Samples also coached 15 years at Dallas Lincoln, winning the Class 4A-Div. 2 State Championship in 2004.
Duncanville is 1-1 on the season, losing to the #1 nationally ranked Mater Dei Monarchs in the season opener, and winning against Dallas South Oak Cliff in Week 2.
DeSoto has wins against Arlington Bowie and North Crowley, and a loss to Converse Judson in the season opener.
