For 15 seasons, Jeff Traylor served as the head coach and athletics director at Gilmer.
He will now be honored for his exceptional work with the program.
Last week, coach Traylor was named as an inductee into the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame 2025 class.
A graduate of Gilmer High School, Traylor began his coaching career at Big Sandy, spending four years as an assistant coach. He later picked up an assistant coach position at Jacksonville, taking on a multitude of roles, including passing coordinator, defensive backs coach, receivers coach and special teams coordinator.
Yet, it’s the school that he graduated that fielded his most impressive work.
From 2000-14, coach Traylor triumphed in three state championships, posting a 175-26 overall record. The team also were runner-ups in both 2007 and 2012.
Overall, he captured 12 district titles, reaching the 10-win benchmark 11 times— all in the last 12 years of his tenure, including two undefeated 16-0 campaigns.
Arguably the most impressive was a 2014 campaign, where en route to the 4A Division 2 state title, the Gilmer offense accounted for the second-most points in the history of the Lone Star State, posting 950 points in 16 games, and averaging 59.4 points per game.
Coach Traylor later recalibrated the UTSA Roadrunners into an AP ranked competitor, earning a pair of Conference USA championships for San Antonio.
Traylor and the rest of the new class will be recognized and inducted in a private ceremony next summer.
