Madisonville faced a tall task as it entered its area round showdown with undefeated Bellville as a 28-point underdog.
Yet on the night, the Mustang defense rose to the occasion.
Against a Bellville offense that was averaging over 43 points per game heading into the area round, Madisonville limited the Brahmas to just 197 yards of offense on the night.
Offensively for the Mustangs, PJ Green rushed for 102 yards on 11 carries, while kicker Alex Torres nailed two field goals from 23 yards and another from 18 yards as Madisonville eked out a 9-3 victory over Belville.
The Mustangs are now back in the third round for the first time since 2017 and will seek to advance to the fourth round for the first time since 1959 when it takes on Silsbee in Spring on Friday night.
