Worthing had a regular season to remember. For the first time in school history, the Colts finished a perfect 10-0. Now, the question was whether they could carry that over to the playoffs.
Heading into last Friday, the Colts had lost eight-straight playoff games.
And at halftime, they were in serious trouble of having that streak extended, trailing Fort Bend Crawford 21-3.
Evidently, Worthing head coach Brandon Elis got his guys fired up at halftime. The Colts came galloping out of the break with a 32 unanswered points thanks to four total touchdowns from quarterback Vashawn Smith and a pick-six from senior Anthony Watson.
That avalanche was enough for the Colts to claim the 35-28 victory that was their first playoff win since 2010.
Smith did it all for the Colt offense with 271 passing yards and two touchdowns to go along with another 132 yards and two scores on the ground. Jacory Thurman also had a monster night with four catches for 145 yards and two touchdowns. Running back Kwame Roy was right behind him in terms of explosiveness with four catches for 95 yards plus another 68 yards rushing.
The win gives Worthing a shot at going after school history this week. The Colts have never been to the third round of the playoffs. They’ll get their chance at achieving that feat this Thursday in Humble.
